Youth Suicide Prevention Awareness

Hello 4-H Community! Our names are Alexandria and Jordan, and we are two NMSU students from the School of Nursing. In collaboration with 4-H leadership, we developed an educational seminar focused on youth suicide prevention in New Mexico. We were honored to present this seminar at the Senior Leadership Retreat to youth in January, where we shared valuable tools and resources for mental health aimed at helping participants identify at-risk inpiduals and provide appropriate support. The information included details about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a great resource for those who may be experiencing challenging times or a crisis.

In the hope that our reach can move beyond the seminar in January, we provided the material in downloadable format, as well as a narrated PowerPoint you can click to view. Anyone can view or use it to spread more information about the critical public health concern of youth suicide.

We find that this would be valuable as a grab-and-go for anyone in leadership interested in spreading awareness in suicide prevention and mental health with information specific for New Mexico youth. The downloadable PowerPoint has notes below the slides for anyone to use themselves if they wish. We would love for you all to use this content to spread this information.

Let’s continue to work together to create an open culture of communication and mutual support within 4-H, to foster more connected and resilient communities!
